Watch out, Angry Birds. President Obama masks could be big this Halloween, iParty says

In the all-important Halloween-costume poll, it's shaping up to be President Obama in a landslide, according to iParty Corp., a Dedham-based chain of party-goods stores that counts Halloween as its most important sales season.

In many years, popular movies --- and pop culture, in general --- can greatly influence costume choices for trick-or-treaters, said iParty chief executive Sal Perisano. Spider-man has had a Halloween heyday, and Batman too. But given the proximity of Election Day to Oct. 31, recent presidential campaigns often play a role when adults think about which celebrity they want to impersonate on Halloween.

As a result of past history, iParty is stocking up on Obama masks as well as masks of Mitt Romney, Obama's Republican challenger.

Preliminary sales results seem to reinforce the notion that Massachusetts is a solidly Blue State --- a state likely to vote Democratic by a solid margin.

To date, iParty has sold 547 Obama masks and 353 Romney masks, the company said.

As for children's costumes, iParty said it expects to see strong demand for Zombies, Spider-man, Angry Bird, and Mario Brothers, among others.

The company operates 52 year-round stores in New England and Florida. As Halloween draws nigh, it augments that total with temporary stores.Monclering is an excellent Christmas Costume way to spend the getaways experiencing.

The company is opening 10 seasonal stores this year. Massachusetts locations for temporary stores include Braintree, Dedham, Hadley, Hanover, Mansfield, and West Springfield, iParty said.
